Great idea, Allen!!! I'm Paul Shiroma. I'm from SoCal (Costa Mesa, to be exact) and have a beautiful wife of 17 years and two wonderful sons (Andrew and Nathaniel). I've been rockhounding on and off since I was six, when my Dad bought me one of those little hobby tumblers. I was hooked! Now, my boys and I do our own rock hounding and we get to show Grandpa what we've collected. Looking forward to meeting more folks on the "new" RFTF forum! In case we happen to cross paths, this is me: We were at the Hector Hills site about a year or two ago.

Howdy, rockhounds!
I'm Kris, your forum Admin, and rabid rockhound! I reside in the Central Valley of California, and have been a rockhound since the tender age of four. I'm lucky to be a professional rockhound, mining at Davis Creek, Modoc National Forest, Modoc County, CA. and other West Coast locations with my mining partner Al, as Hand-2-Mouth Mining.
A few of our local stomping grounds include:
The Panoche Hills - Area 54, the Big Pile, the Little Pile and numerous roadside areas.
The Tumey Hills/Silver Creek area of western Fresno County, CA.
The Road 29 chiastolite digs of Madera County, CA.
Thanks to everyone for participating in this forum, feel free to drop me a note with your ideas and comments.
Best regards,
Kris

I'm Kristin. I've collected rocks ever since I was a small child. My father used to take us on trips to crystal peak in dog valley, Ca to hunt for quartz crystals when I was a kid. For the past year or so, I have become an avid collector of crystals and minerals. This has turned from a small collection to a real passion of mine. I make jewelry and wire wrap with semi precious beads and stones. I recently relocated to the motherlode/central valley foothills and am in search of new locations to search for quartz or anything else interesting. My husband got me a rock tumbler for Xmas so well see what this year has in store. Would greatly appreciate any knowledge you all have to pass down to a younger generation about tumbling, polishing, cutting, wire wrapping, mineral identification, resources. hounding locations, etc.

Kristin - I've heard of crystal peak although I've never had a chance to get up there. Cool of your dad to get you up there! Do you have any photos of your finds? Would love to see them!

Welcome to the new forum, Kristin! Crystal Peak is one of the cool destinations that's "on the way" between so many other sites! I'm hoping to get the time to stop there on our way to Davis Creek in late Summer or Fall this year. I'm with Paul, I'd love to see any crystal photos that you have, and photos of your creations, too. If you want to post them, use the new "Picture that ..." Catagory. I'll put in a boar for crystal pictures! Kris

Heya-
As I have already intro'd myself at RFTF we'll make it short. My name is George and I live in the SF Bay Area with my wife and two dogs. I am completing my BS in Geology next year (just switched major from economics/accounting this past fall as I just can't handle another "office" job). Been fossil hunting casualy since I was mid-teens, about 20 years I guess, and am just as addicted to rocks as one could be. They tell the best stories after all. Hope to meet you all soon.
Regards

Hi All!,
I am Josh. Recently relocated up to Fort Bragg in Mendocino County after living in LA for 12 or so years. Got the rock hounding bug after meeting my wife as we like to rock hound for minerals. We have done a fair bit of hounding in Socal all around.
My wife and recently took a cross country trip to visit my folks in NC. Lots of hounding along the way. And I took back a lot of rocks!
Looking forward to using the forum and meeting up with fellow rockhounders for some field trips! Josh

Got any photos of the haul, Josh? Would love to see them! Ft Bragg is a beautiful area. Love NorCal but, dang, if it isn't cold up there.

Hi Josh, welcome aboard the new forum! You're in great territory for interesting rocks and minerals up in Fort Bragg! Beach-combing for agate, jasper, jade and more is great up there, and even better when you get over the Oregon border. I'm looking forward to your trip reports and photos, be sure to send me any suggestions you have for the forum. I'm scouting for level headed rockhounds to be Moderators, too. Have fun, and I'll see you in the field! Kris, the Admin Hi All!, I am Josh. Recently relocated up to Fort Bragg in Mendocino County after living in LA for 12 or so years. Thank you for the welcome Kris!
Today my wife and I went for a field trip to the Laytonville quarry north of Willits. Very interesting mineralogy with some rare stuff. I have some pics and will post them soon.
