Hi. I'm from Valley Springs, CA. I'm retired and I've been making cabs since 1958 and jewelry since 1972 but not professionally. I keep busy as the president of the Mother Lode Mineral Society in Modesto, CA. Working hard getting everything set up for our show on March 9th and 10th in Turlock, CA. turlockgemshow.com Bob Rush What Bob so modestly left out of his "intro" is his lapidary work is EXTRAORDINARY and I like to call him the "King of the BIG Cabs"! So glad to have you here Bob and I hope you will share with us your projects and knowledge!

Hi Jim - good to meet you!
Bobby - beautiful cabs, sir!
Miriam - Ridgecrest is "just around the corner" as far as rock hounding goes. Been by and through there a few times to favorite sites. We'll have to get a trip together and meet the gang out here!

Hi Everyone, I'm relatively new to rockhounding. I joined the San Diego Mineral & Gem Society and have been on a couple of official trips. However, I've been looking at the ground for years. But, I didn't know what I had found and tossed most. Since joining the club, my husband of 31 years has an increased appreciation for the hobby. Looking forward to learning more and future field trips. Connie

Already posted a few pictures so I figured I had better do the intro...met Al at the Mapiposa Gem show this last Sunday and he told me about this site....here goes. I'm retired UPS (30 years) been rockhounding about five years now, I was the Calaveras Gem and Mineral field trip leader for four years (and temp field guy until someone else steps up). I do the larger part of my hounding in Nevada as I have spent years wandering the hills Chuckar hunting out there and I am in the process of going back and picking up all the rock I walked over but didn't have any interest in....my other main interest is looking for gold but that's another story......bob

Hi Robert! Thanks for signing on to the forums. Al told me that he'd met some enthusiastic rockhounds while "flying solo" at the Mariposa Show, and we're looking forward to sharing great rockhounding adventures with you. Have fun, and stay in touch!
Best regrads,
Kris

Hi, I am living in El Dorado County after moving 9 times in 6 years. Grew up in the mother lode digging in the ground, but always around Tuolumne and Calaveras counties. I am late to introduce myself mostly because I have had little to add until now. The distance has made it difficult for me to make any of the group's trips so far, but my situation has changed and I am planning a trip of my own to northern Nevada, as part of a long story that involves ancient artifacts and family and a love of opal.
I will be making other trips and hoping to meet other members at the shows and in the field.

Hi I'm Cathy (hookitty). I live in Washington but travel a fair amount. I collected rocks as a child then got a degree in geology. I then got derailed on my rock hunting when working for the State of Alaska in an office job. I have forgotten more then I remember but have started collecting again. I love to go to CA and collect agates on the beach and have been lucky enough to do some things like Sapphire hunting in Montana. I am looking for more rocking adventures.

Hi Fanatics,
I posted on the other forums but this seems place to be! My name is Jennifer, I am 44 and the mom to an energetic 8 month old rescue husky/collie mix (rock hound in training) named Darwin. I am new to California rockhounding. I moved from the east coast this past March. I got my start back in Maryland about 3 years ago, primarily with outings for marine fossils and then began including gems and minerals. I am completely hooked and I am looking to discover new finds, friends and places.
RFTF has been a great source of information for me. I have not had the chance to really meet people with these interests here, to join on field trips and to learn from. Presently, I am usually out solo - so getting to know fellow enthusiasts would be wonderful!
I collected goethite, serpentine, garnets and the like in Maryland but since first searching through RFTF pages and going to the Panoche area; chalcedony has really peaked my interests. I have yet to venture off small road side sites so my collecting has been limited and I am itching for more adventures; there is so much to experience and all these wonderful places I would love to collect at. If I could I would be out in the dirt all day, every day and every where!
Hoping to meet everyone,
Jenn

I'm new to this site. I have been a rockhound since I was very small in Minnesota. Now live in SoCal. We are members of the Palomar Gem Club in Escondido. We are always looking for new sites to visit. I see some beautiful stuff from North of us. Looking forward to new adventures.

Greetings one and all:
I'm new to this site. I've got my application for membership submitted and am waiting for the background check and finger prints to clear. Hope they don't look too closely. I have been interested in rocks for some time but just recently got hooked. I just bought a double barrel tumbler from Harbor Freight, my favorite toy store. Haven't plug it in yet, but I'm workin' on it. I have a couple of small jars of agates that were given to me that I plan to use as my test case in the tumbler. I also have a couple of geodes and thunder eggs that I'm dying to cut open to see what the prize is. Started my due diligence on the subject to find out the best way to do that. Will a tile saw with an appropriate blade do the trick? Been watching youtube videos of people using a cheap Harbor Freight tile saw slice rocks, etc. in half. That last comment is a sad commentary on my life. Spending time on the internet watching some yahoo cut a rock into 2 pieces.
My wife and I still live and work in Fresno. She's an attorney and I'm a CPA.
I'm interested in the Panoche Hills area since it's not that far away and would like to explore the area when it's less that 100 degrees during the day. Would like to find some agates, jasper, etc. to tumble. And if you can believe the youtube videos, it looks easy to slice and dice'em with a tile saw.
I'll keep checking this site and hopefully, my reputation hasn't preceded me here and my application will be approved.

I am Nick and I live in Toronto. Come to this wonderful city and see our beautiful nature. But I wanna say that you should rent a car to see everything and it's cheaper than using city transport. And more convenient. I recommend you iversta.com/ just in case you'll need it
