My name is a Denise and I am a avid rockhunter and miner. I have been pursuing below the ground booty for about five years now, sparked by my LOVE and search of turquoise when I moved to Nevada and lived there for about a year. I'm a retired professional firefighter and spend much of my time now on the hunt or at the lapidary wheels. I'm the founder of Wildfire Mining, which is a purveyor of prime lapidary materials, both known and exclusive to Wildfire Mining. I'm a member of Roseville Rockrollers Gem & Mineral Society, serving as their Assistant Field Trip Leader, Assistant Gem & Mineral Show Chairperson and am also a member of the Tule Gem & Mineral Society in Visalia. I also serve as a rep to the Northern California CO-OP Field Trip Association. I live on an old hydraulic gold mine and enjoy the fact that I can sluice for gold in my creek and scour my property with my detector... and actually have it pay off! My main haunt these days is the Panoche Hills, Area 54 and the Mojave Desert... you can usually find me in Area 54 at least once a month following my buddies Kris and Al around and making them laugh. I'm a gnarly desert rat... diggin' in the deserts of Nevada often and mining down south in the Mojave/Colorado deserts at least 4 times during the season. I look forward to sharing lots of good times with everyone on the board! Thanks Kris for kickin' out another amazing site... (love ya brother!) Here is a recent pic of me and Kris at Area 54....

Good to meet you, Denise! Love the poem, too! I'll be up in your area later this week but on business ... no time to rockhound, unfortunately.

Thanks for the welcome Paul and it's a shame we can't get together while you are up here. Next time!

Thanks for posting that photo, Denise! It shows my best side! Hope you had a great time at the Tule Show this weekend, and a safe drive to the Mojave Desert. I know you'll have a great time in Quartzsite, and I'll be posting more dining and comfort tips for in your Quartzsite thread. Later! Kris

Hi all! I'm Marian and recently I moved with my husband, Jim, and basset hound/black lab, Willow, to Ridgecrest, CA to work at the local hospital. I'm brand new to rock collecting, and look forward to going on some field trips this year if at all possible. I'm still trying to find good places to go nearby that won't get me shot, haha! As a "heads-up" to the admin here, I'm a moderator at support.proboards.com, so if you need anything, give me a shout. I'd be happy to help.

Marian! Welcome to the forum! As you may have noticed, you're right in the middle of prime rockhounding territory. The El Paso Mts. are part of my stomping ground, there are tons of great sites out there. Since I'm in the throes of writing a field guide to Central California roadside rockhounding, you present me with an opportunity! I'll concentrate on chronicling/updating my favorite Ridgecrest/Mojave area sites, and keep you updated. Thanks for doing the Support job! It's a testament to your work that ProBoards functions so very well! Best regards, Kris

Hi everyone - my girlfriend Eva and I are looking forward to meeting a few of you at the Panoche Hills field trip this coming Saturday. We are both newly addicted to rock hounding so forgive us in advance if we ask a lot of questions or tend to stand around with blank looks on our faces. We are learning and having fun. I have a small saw and a nice six-wheel polishing unit donated to us by my brother who is a long time rock hound and gem club member - so my goal Saturday is to learn a lot and come home with a couple of buckets of quality stuff to play around and practice with.

Awesome :-) so we won't be the only ones standing around with blank stares. Should be fun, we're looking forward to it. We've been doing a lot of collecting from various beaches and tumbling agates etc. but we both love to get out and dig in the dirt so it's time to take it to the next level.

Hi Tommy! Good to hear from you! I'm looking forward to leading the field trip this Saturday, along with my partner Al. I predict that you and Eva will do very little standing around with "blank" looks. You'll be frenzedly scrambling about, picking up and digging out pretty rocks! It sounds like your brother has set you up pretty well for lapidary work, is he going to instruct you in its use? Thats half the fun of introducing someone to rockhounding and lapidary! See you Saturday! Kris

Thanks for posting an intro, Bob! Everyone in our house has had the latest Flu (again), we hope that we're well enough to attend your Club Show. If we're sick, we'll stay home and keep it to ourselves!
Good fortune, sir!

Hello all, Jim here from the central coast. I chase minerals, crystals and lapidary stuff mostly. Love fieldtripping all over the western US. Been on a couple trips of Kris's but this darn thing called work keeps getting in the way. Off to Tucson for the coming week, work will just have to wait! Keep on rockin! Jim
