We did a combined snow trip plus rockhounding trip up to Wrightwood over the Christmas and New Year's vacation. Weather was clear and cold up in Wrightwood with a nice dusting (three to four additional inches) of new snow from the last storm. Along the way we did some impromptu rockhounding in the riverbed that cuts through the town. Also had lunch at the Grizzly Cafe - great food and really nice folks.

Barbara was a real trooper today. She's been fighting off a cold and still joined the boys in the snow. ;D
After defrosting at the Grizzly Cafe, we pulled over by the riverbed on the way out and did some collecting. Wrightwood has always had a good supply of actinolite and common white quartz. Supposedly there is a lot of rhodonite there although I've yet to find any. Nathaniel's always big on the quartz so I've tumbled a bit for him. It comes out nice. Here's the primary goal - actinolite:
