Out here in the Mojave Desert, the Marines have been trying to have been trying to take over the Johnson Valley offroad area. This is the largest open area in the whole United States for camping, off-roading, rockhounding, exploring. It has the famous Hammers -- really tough areas for rock crawling. The famous King of the Hammers race takes place there the first of Feb. along with at least 4 other races.
We have been asking the Marines to move East instead. In the desert we are strong supporters of our military but please don't take our open areas.
It will take all of us outdoor folks sticking together to keep the governments from closing down the areas we like to play in.
