Hi, RFTF! forum members!
If I haven't thanked you for coming on board, THANKS!
The first week (so far) has seen us grow to 16 members, with several great trip reports posted. Will Puryear and my partner Al Fries will be helping build and wrangle the site as Global Moderators.
Yes, it's an ominous sounding job, but they're used to handling awesome power and responsibility.
This month's Area 54 Trip is tomorrow (1/12/13), with all of the details available at the Events section of the main site, rockhound-field-trips.ning.com/events
I'm sure that there'll be several trip reports next week, and a new Site Report is in the writing and research stage right now.
Be sure to take a look around and suggest sections and boards that would be useful. Also, please take the time to review my Announcements and helpful (I hope!) tips. I do my best to be clear, but suggestions always help!
One suggestion that came my way immediately was that the same level of courtesy expected on the RFTF! Ning site be maintained here. So be it!
Toward that end, here at RFTF! forums, we're not concerned about political parties or ideologies, we're rockhounds. There'll be a section for cute photos of your kids or other happy subjects, but please stay clear of divisive rants and subjects. There are countless thousands of sites dedicated to that sort of thing, including the Blog feature of RFTF!'s Ning site member page. That way, you say it, you own it, and it doesn't cause problems.
The only exception to that rule is on rockhound related issues such as land access and conservation, which will be moderated by me personally. There will be a separate Category for this topic, with a "Heads UP!" thread for threatened or actual rockhounding site closures.
All of that said, I have yet to meet an RFTF! member who wasn't courteous and considerate in the field, and the Moderators will be ensuring that same level of courtesy here online. The watch word is always, "Keep it Clean, keep it Happy, keep it Safe!" I'll add to that, "And have FUN!"
Please let fellow rockhounds know about the forum, and remind them that (outside of the "General" Category) they must be members to post and view most of the forum. This will help us to evade spammers (other than me, of course! ), repel unscrupulous and destructive individuals, and protect our collecting areas, too!
I'll be posting lots of photos this next week, and some sales too, with special prices.
A Contest will be posted this Sunday, after members are polled about it at Area 54 tomorrow.
See you in the field, friends!
Kris
